Roland Adams, Crosswater Yacht Club/ Hurst Harbor Marina
Roland Adams, Crosswater Yacht Club/Hurst Harbor Marina
General Manager: Crosswater Yacht Club/ Hurst Harbor Marina
Native Austinite, Roland Adams has been involved with the boating industry on Lake Travis since his college days starting in 1986. He spent several summer breaks working at Lakeway Marina as a dock hand and ski boat driver. After school, Roland took another marina job on the north shore of Lake Travis at Riviera Marina and worked his way from dock hand, to fork lift driver, and eventually the marina manager.
During this time, Roland was very involved in the Marina Association of Lake Travis. Upon the sale of Riviera to new owner and operator, he took a different type of boating job in 1997 selling boats at The Ski Dock of Austin Texas. During the 12 years as the top salesman at The Ski Dock he earned many sales awards and records. While employed at the Ski Dock, Roland was also asked by Chaparral Boats to assist in their national sales training efforts.
Missing the marina way of life, he found his way back as the General Manager at a Suntex Marinas property, Hurst Harbor Marina on Lake Travis in 2009. Under tremendous hardship of the drought of 2009 and then again from 2011 through 2015, Roland lead his team through some very difficult years. In 2013 Suntex Marinas called on Roland to help construct the newest marina on Lake Travis, Crosswater Yacht Club.
The ground up construction of the 247 slips, parking lot and store started late 2012 and finished spring of 2013. CYC has since won Marina of the Year in Texas along with Clean Marina of the year three times. Built during the longest drought recorded since the impounding of Lake Travis, the marina was designed to perform at most any water level. Through a service-based philosophy, Roland and his team have almost doubled the value of the property from the initial investment to the estimated value today in just 5 years.
Roland and his team were asked by Suntex Marinas to champion the Folds of Honor Foundation in 2013. FOH is a scholarship foundation that awards to children and spouses of fallen and wounded soldiers. With the conviction of the marina staff and events planned throughout the year the marina has led the entire Suntex Marina company with overall fundraising results from 2014 to 2018. The total raised for FOH since 2013 to date stands at $322,000 which translates to roughly 62 scholarships.
Since taking over as general manager of HHM, Roland has been elected to the board of the Marina Association of Texas, and now is the sitting President of the organization, sits on the board of the Central Texas Chapter of the Folds of Honor. He also was asked to and sat on the Central Texas Water Coalition Business development committee and appointed to the board of the Highland Lakes Group.
A devoted husband and father, Roland enjoys boating, snowboarding, camping and other activities with his wife, daughter and son. He is also an avid fisherman, golfer and loves to scuba dive every chance he gets.
