Located alongside the south shore of picturesque Lake Travis in the Texas Hill Country, the Lake Travis Independent School District is a 2010 Texas Education Agency (TEA) Exemplary District. It is unparalleled in beauty and in the quality of opportunities for students and staff. Located just 20 minutes west of Austin, the capitol of Texas, Lake Travis ISD is undergoing significant growth.
Established in 1981, Lake Travis ISD is comprised of eight campuses within a radius of approximately 118 square miles. Our reputation for excellence in academic and extracurricular programs, modern and well-equipped facilities supported by voter-approved bonds, and dedicated, highly-qualified staff are a few of the many reasons why Lake Travis ISD is the destination district for thousands of families.
Approximately 7,000 students consistently achieve at levels above state and national averages. Some of the many highlights from the 2009-2010 school year include the selection of two LTISD campuses to the Texas Business and Education Coalition Honor Roll; the recognition of 13 students from Lake Travis High School under the National Merit Scholarship Program; the attainment of numerous TEA Gold Performance Acknowledgements by LTISD and each of its eight campuses for high performance on indicators other than those used to determine accountability ratings; the recognition of Lake Travis High School as one of ‘America’s Best High Schools’ by U.S. News and World Report for how well teachers and staff prepare students for college; the naming of six LTISD campuses as Higher Performing Schools by Just for the Kids, a non-profit organization established by the National Center for Educational Achievement to help K-12 students reach College and Career Readiness; the selection of a record four students from the Lake Travis High School Cavalier Band to the 2010 Texas 4-A All-State Band; and the selection of Lake Travis High School as a Model School—one of only ten in the country—by Project Lead The Way, a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the national shortage of engineers.
Additionally, LTISD is home to the 2010 Class 4A volleyball state champion Lady Cavs and the 2007, 2008, and 2009 Class 4A football state champion Cavaliers. Many of our students participate in numerous other UIL programs and activities including agriculture, band, and the fine and performing arts.
Both inside and outside the classroom, our students are highly successful, thanks in large part to a well-established foundation of parental and community involvement. The Lake Travis Education Foundation was one of the first education foundations in Texas. Since 1985, the LTEF has raised over $2.25 million benefitting local educators and students.
Lake Travis residents understand the value of a successful school system and its impact on the greater community and its quality of life. Supported by a cadre of caring professionals and support staff, our students are at the center of that system. Every heart, every mind, every day. That is the LT way!
