Lakeway, TX - The City of Lakeway is excited to promote its "Loyal to Lakeway" Buy Local campaign, encouraging residents to support local businesses and shop online this holiday season, especially on Small Business Saturday. This initiative is a reminder of the significant benefits that shopping locally or online brings to our community, enhancing economic resilience, fostering local connections, and generating essential revenue for city services.
"Shopping locally does more than provide convenience; it directly contributes to the quality of life in Lakeway," said Mayor Tom Kilgore. "When residents choose to buy local, they’re helping boost sales tax revenues, which helps offset property taxes and fund critical infrastructure, all while building a vibrant, close-knit community."
Here are some impactful reasons to shop locally:
- Increase in Sales Tax Revenue: Local shopping generates sales tax revenue that funds city projects and infrastructure, helping alleviate the burden on property taxes. Currently, Lakeway sales tax contributes to only about 30% of our budgeted revenue.
- Community Investment: Approximately 65% of retail dollars spent by Lakeway residents currently go outside the city, equating to an estimated $14.9 million in lost sales tax revenue to the City of Lakeway. By shopping within Lakeway, residents can help capture these funds, investing in our community's growth and well-being.
